Wis. Senate OKs outdoor fees for Purple Heart vets

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- -

The Wisconsin Senate has approved a bill that would offer wounded veterans steep discounts on the state Department of Natural Resource's catch-all outdoor activity license.

The bipartisan measure would allow Purple Heart recipients who reside in Wisconsin to purchase a conservation patron license for $10. The licenses currently cost state residents $165.

Purple Heart recipients who live outside Wisconsin would pay $161 for a license; out-of-state residents currently pay $600 per license.

Conservation patron licenses authorize the holder to participate in a range of hunting, trapping and fishing activities.

The bill also would offer out-of-state Purple Heart winners individual outdoor licenses at cheaper state resident prices.

The Senate approved the bill on a unanimous voice vote on Tuesday with no debate. It now goes to the state Assembly.
