Barn, chicks lost in fire at game farm

TOWN OF GENESEE, Wis. (AP) -- A fire at a game farm and hunt club in Waukesha County has destroyed a barn that housed hundreds of pheasants.

The fire at the Wern Valley Pheasant Farm in the Town of Genesee started shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, destroyed one barn and damaged another.

An update on the Wern Valley Sportsmen's Club's Facebook page says 600 pheasants are missing.

WISN-TV reports at least 20 area fire departments responded to the five-alarm fire. The farm's owner says heaters were being used to keep the pheasant chicks warm. Authorities say they're investigated that as a possible source of the fire.
