Merrill women sent to prison in heroin probe

MADISON (WAOW) – U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil says two Merrill women have been sentenced to federal prison for involvement in heroin distribution in Lincoln and Marathon counties.

Jennifer Roper, 48, was sentenced to one year in prison and three years supervised release for conspiring to distribute heroin from October 2010 to November 2011, Vaudreuil said in a statement Tuesday. She was also fined $1,649.

Leanna Wells, 32, was sentenced to seven months in prison and three years supervised release for distribution of heroin in Wausau in 2011, the prosecutor said.

The women were indicted by a federal grand jury last November.

A third woman charged in the drug conspiracy is to be sentenced July 11, Vaudreuil said.
