Gus Macker basketball tournament wraps up

The Gus Macker wrapped up Sunday with the championship rounds.

Organizers said Sunday's  weather made up for rain that fell during the 3-on-3 games Saturday.

They said 31 trophies were given to winning teams.

Coordinators said there were more than 5,000 people at the event this weekend, but not everyone came just for the competition on the court.

"When the teams start getting eliminated, you start playing, no matter if it's for fun or not, or you're up here for reunions, to watch people, you see when it starts getting for that trophy, there's a little bit of heat that comes into it," said Event Co-Coordinator, Randy Pagel.

The Slam Dunk Challenge was supposed to take place Saturday night, but rain forced organizers to move it to Sunday.

Coordinators said the future of the tournament is still up in the air.

They said the contract with Newman Catholic High School, where the tournament is held, is up in September.
