Wausau PD joins social media world

WAUSAU (WAOW) – The Wausau Police Department has joined the social media world.

Chief Jeff Hardel said the department created a Facebook page and a Twitter account in an effort to better communicate with the community.

“It is our intention to put content on the social media sites on a regular basis,” he said in a statement.

The agency's Facebook page is “Wausau Police Department” and it can be followed on Twitter @WausauPD.

As of Friday, the department's Facebook page had 183 "likes" and the Twitter account had 65 "followers."

One of the agency's recent Twitter tweets was this:

“Pushback Against Drug Abuse campaign...''I am Heroin” check it out on our website.

Some central Wisconsin law enforcement agencies joined the social media world earlier, including police departments in Kronenwetter and Wisconsin Rapids.
