Sheriff: 4 arrested in heroin, cocaine raid

Four people are in jail after two drug busts in Wausau involving heroin and cocaine.

Sheriff's officers said the arrests came after a three month investigation.

Marathon County officials said Thursday they searched two homes connected to cocaine and heroin sales.

They arrested at 42-year-old man at a home on East Wausau Avenue for selling cocaine.

Officials said they also searched a home on South First Avenue.

Sheriff's authorities tell Newsline 9 they arrested a 29-year-old man earlier that day as part of the search, a 26-year-old woman, and a 23-year-old man for selling heroin.

Investigators said they didn't find a big stash of drugs in either case, but they said they've seen the problem growing here.

"Heroin has become a drug that is especially concerning to law enforcement in the area, we have seen a huge increase in the number of overdoses related to heroin," said Lt. Gary Schneck, Marathon County Sheriff's Department.

Marathon County authorities said there were about ten officers working the investigation.

Officials are not releasing names of the people arrested at this time.

WAUSAU (WAOW) – The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says searches of three Wausau homes in a three-month investigation of heroin, cocaine and crack trafficking led to four people being arrested.

Sheriff Scott Parks said Friday the arrests included a 42-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man on charges ranging from delivery of crack cocaine and heroin to maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of marijuana.

Parks said a fifth person, a 41-year-old woman, was questioned in the raid but was not arrested.

The arrests followed searches at two Wausau homes and an apartment on Thursday that included a drug-sniffing dog, Parks said.

The sheriff's department's special investigations unit includes officers from the sheriff's department, Wausau Police Department and Everest Metro Police Department, the sheriff said.
