Mother convicted of neglecting her son

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – The mother of an 8-month-old boy was convicted Friday of neglecting her child in a plea bargain in which a more serious charge of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm was dismissed.

Kurstyn Bieneman, 20, of Racine pleaded no contest Friday to one count of felony child neglect and one misdemeanor count of child neglect, according to online Wood County Circuit Court records. No sentencing date was immediately set.

Bieneman and Robert Winker, 27, of Nekoosa were charged with child abuse of the boy in December after the child's grandmother took him to a hospital after discovering injuries, the criminal complaint said.

Bieneman and Winker were staying at a Nekoosa residence and were responsible for care of the child, which medical records show had fractures of the wrist, legs, ankle and ribs, the complaint said.

The complaint says Winker told investigators Bieneman was physically rough with the boy. Bieneman says she saw Winker shake the child.

Winker has pleaded not guilty to two felonies. His trial is scheduled to start Aug. 14, according to online records.
