Wausau Paper has confirmed the closing of its speciality paper business to Expera Specialty Solutions, LLC, a newly formed company sponsored by KPS Capital Partners.
On Thursday, the Expera leadership team traveled to the Rhinelander and Mosinee mills to host "Day 1 Celebrations."
KPS Capital partners bought the two mills in March. They employ about 1,000 people. In April, KPS also bought Thilmany Papers which has mills in De Pere and Kaukauna. Now that the sale is final, Thilmany Papers and Wausau Paper have combined and Expera Specialty Solutions has been formed. The company says it is the largest specialty paper mill in North America.
Expera Solutions will employ about 1,800 people throughout the four mills.
"Spirits are high, the mood is really great, everybody is really excited about it because we know we're keeping our jobs and we're stable in the community," Addie Teeters, Human Resources Manager for Expera Solutions said.
Company leaders say they're optimistic about their future in the community.
"We're in the practice of protecting people's products. There's always going to be a need for sandwich wraps, for bags, Reese's peanut cup papers so because we are so specialty in niche that really helps make us strong," Teeters said.
Expera Solutions will tour the De Pere and Kaukauna mills on Friday.
