PRESS RELEASE FROM WISCONSIN RAPIDS RAFTERS:
Charlie Curl ignited a massive six-run second inning with two outs and the La Crosse Loggers (19-13) stranded 15 runners on base as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (18-14) topped the Loggers, 8-6, Sunday evening at Witter Field. The win was the third-straight for the Rafters who claimed the first two games of the three-game set with La Crosse. The Rafters are now two games back in the south division standings with three games remaining in the first half.
Jonathan Moroney led the Rafters 12 hit attack as the Texas A&M freshman added his 10th multi-hit game of the season, including his second four-hit game in the last three nights. Moroney is now hitting an impressive .408 with four home runs in his first 17 with the club. The Rafters are now 12-5 since Moroney joined the club on June 13. Wisconsin Rapids, now four games above the .500 mark, their highest of the season.
Robbie Coman brought in the first run of the game after Moroney recorded his first hit of the day on a base hit up the middle. Coman would knock in Moroney for his first RBI of the season, making the score, 1-0.
The Rafters added more in the second inning as the club added their biggest inning of the year on the strength of five base hits with two outs. Curl led things off with a double into the right-center gap and Taylor Stell plated Curl on two-out single to extend the lead, 2-0. The Rafters sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning as Curl, Stell, Moroney, Coman, and Erik Payne all added base knocks and the Rafters were the beneficiary of a big two-out error by the Loggers third basemen, Zak Rivera. The Rafters put the game out of reach by then as they had their largest lead of the game, 7-0.
La Crosse would battle back as the club scored six runs over the games final seven innings. Dexter Price led the way with a big two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to draw the Loggers within two, 8-6.
