The Wisconsin Woodchucks would use some
timely hitting to rally past the Eau Claire Express defeating them
The Woodchucks struck in a loud way in the bottom of the first inning as Matt Tellor would hit a moonshot homerun over the right field wall to give the ‘Chucks an early 1-0 lead. It would be Tellor's sixth homerun on the season.
The Express evened things up in the top of the fourth inning when Daniel Kihle would ground out to second base which allowed Chane Lynch to score on the play. Lynch would lead off the inning with a double off the center field fence.
The Express took the lead thanks to an RBI double off the left-center field fence from Tim Wise bringing home Blake Schmit on the play to give the Express a 2-1 lead.
The Woodchucks rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored two runs to regain the lead. With two outs and the bases loaded, Woodchucks' shortstop Edgar Figueroa came through in the clutch as he brought home both John Clay Reeves and Garrett Rucker with a line drive up the middle to take the lead back 3-2.
Austin Diemer would provide an insurance run after he hit a bomb off the light pole in left field to give the Woodchucks a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth inning.
The win was awarded Woodchucks' starting pitcher Dan Weigel who pitched six inning giving up the two Express runs while striking out four. Woodchucks' closer Jackson Lowery was awarded the save in which he loaded the bases with two outs and struck out Tim Zier to end the game. Lowery now has three saves on the season.
