Man who hammered windows to pay $15,000

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - The 40-year-old man who police say used a hammer to smash several thousand dollars worth of windows at Marshfield Clinic was convicted Friday of four misdemeanors and ordered to pay more than $15,000 in restitution.

William Sachs of Spencer pleaded no contest two counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property and two counts of disorderly conduct in a plea bargain. Two felony counts of criminal damage to property were dismissed.

According to Wood County Circuit Court online records, Sachs was placed on probation for three years and ordered to pay about $15,600 in restitution and court costs.

Investigators said Sachs walked into the Marshfield Clinic urgent care center just about 3:30 p.m. March 21 and started smashing glass windows and doors with a hammer. They say he then walked across campus and also broke windows at the Russell Lewis building. No one was hurt.

Marshfield Clinic said damage from the attack totaled about $13,000.
