Sheriff's department investigating bone discovery in Wisconsin

Eau Claire County (WQOW) - The discovery of a bone near Big Falls has the sheriff's department investigating.

A kayaker found what he says appeared to be half of a human pelvic bone and a waistband from a pair of shorts on the shore of the Eau Claire river Saturday morning. The group was headed down the river when the discovery was made.

The kayaker called authorities, and the sheriff's department is investigating.

The department and the medical examiner are trying to confirm if it is human.  Investigators are also looking back through cases to determine a possible identity for the remains.

The bone will be examined by a specialist, and if it turns out to be human, they will try to do a DNA test and try to determine if it's male or female.

The sheriff says more information is expected to be released later this week.
