Fewer fireworks complaints and citations this year - WAOW - Newsline 9, Wausau News, Weather, Sports

Fewer fireworks complaints and citations this year

Authorities report fewer fireworks citations and complaints over the holiday weekend.

Marathon County Sheriff's officers said this year they had nine complaints and only issued one citation.

They said safety concerns and the cost of citations likely helped bring down those numbers.

Wausau Police report 23 complaints.

That's almost three times fewer than last year.

Officers issued three citations in the city.

In Merrill, officials said they received 12 complaints, but didn't issue any citations.

There were no reports of any serious injuries from fireworks.
