UPDATE: Antigo man pleads not guilty in incident that killed girlfriend

An Antigo man charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance has pleaded not guilty.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says Brandon Bender, 27, was driving a pickup truck under the influence, when his 27-year-old girlfriend reportedly fell out of the passenger door and later died of her injuries.

A judge has ordered Bender to stand trial for endangering Catherine Borchardt. An autopsy showed she died from severe trauma to the head following the April 7 incident in Elderon, investigators said.

A criminal complaint says Bender told police he was driving in Elderon when Borchardt fell out of the passenger door of the pickup after the couple had spent the night partying. Police say he told officers he had been drinking and smoking marijuana, although he was below the legal limit for alcohol.

Prosecutors have said the incident was caught on tape by a security camera. An official with the Marathon County jail says Bender is out on a $25,000 bond.
