Strong storm downs trees, power lines in Lincoln Co.

Trees and power lines covered part of Lincoln County after a strong thunderstorm rolled through Tuesday afternoon.

A Wisconsin Public Service crew was hard at work on Schulz Spur Drive just minutes later trying to move the lines off the road and clear a path for drivers.

"We got this call with the road being blocked so we came here," said WPS Line Technician Rob Grefe.

The isolated storm caused quite a bit of damage.

"There was reports of a tornado that might have been jumping," said Grefe. "It took down several trees and knocked down a few spans of wire and also broke one of our power poles."

Crews blocked part of the road for about an hour so they could clean up. High winds and rain caused enough damage that extra crews had to be called in to help.

"We've got some guys from Wausau here already and I think they're calling another crew from a neighboring site," said Grefe.

At one point, hundreds of customers in the Merrill area were without power.
