Langlade County tornado caught on tape

We're getting a close-up look at the tornado that swept through parts of Lincoln and Langlade Counties. That tornado touched down Tuesday.

Wisconsin State Patrol Sergeant Bryan Wrycha was on duty last night near Langlade County. He and other trained weather spotters were dispatched to track the storm. Wrycha says when he saw funnel clouds forming, he knew he needed to capture it.

"I followed that storm to the east," Wrycha explained. "While I was out there with other storm spotters we spotted a funnel cloud."

The National Weather Service, located in Green Bay, says that funnel could was classified as an EF-0 tornado.

"I saw some branches and twigs in the area but no significant damage from what I could see," Wrycha explained.

He captured the entire tornado from his dashcam inside his police cruiser.

"It's a very wooded area out there so I had to get in a better location to view it," Wrycha said. "I got to an area with some fields so I could get a better view of it."

He says it's a sight he won't forget.

"It was interesting I'd never seen one before so, thankfully it was small enough where no real damage was done so it was very interesting to see."

A handful of state patrol officers are trained weather spotters. They say when bad weather hits, their job is to head out and make sure everyone and everything stays safe.

"It's a very nice view to see that but you probably should be seeking shelter inside a sturdy building."
