Police: No citations issued in fatal bicycle crash

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) – An investigator says no citations have been issued in the crash of a semi-truck and bicyclist that killed the bicyclist.

“There is nothing that we found to show the driver is at fault,” Marshfield Police Lt. Rick Gramza said Thursday. “We can't point fault at anyone at this point.”

Bicyclist Paul Weigel, 56, of Marshfield was killed in the July 2 crash near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and 8th Street. Veterans Parkway is State Highway 13 as it goes through Marshfield.

According to Gramza, the semi was stopped at a red light and was turning to head westbound on Highway 13 when the bicyclist riding alongside the truck somehow collided with the truck and ended up under a trailer tire.

The semi driver, a 54-year-old Stevens Point man, said he never saw the bicyclist, who was apparently on his way home from work, Gramza said.

No eyewitnesses saw what exactly happened, Gramza said.

The semi driver told police that he did not drive on the curb with the trailer as he made the turn onto Highway 13, Gramza said.
