Crandon man sentenced to 7 years in prison

CRANDON (WAOW) - A Crandon man was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for running over a man as he walked home on New Year's Day 2012.

A jury convicted Norbert Polar, 47, of four felonies, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and fifth offense drunken driving.

Forest County Circuit Judge Leon Stenz ordered that after serving the prison term, Polar must remain on extended supervisor for eight years with these conditions: he cannot enter a bar or tavern, he must perform 500 hours of community service and he may not operate a motor vehicle, according to online court records.

Investigators said Polar ran over 41-year-old Klynt Decorah while he was walking home along Highway 55 in the Town of Nashville.

The jury acquitted Polar of hit and run involving death.
