Sizzle continues at Balloon Rally and Ribfest

From the sauce to the sizzle, there's nothing quite like fresh ribs. And there are plenty of people to enjoy them at this year's Balloon Rally and Ribfest.

This year, six vendors are in Wausau. They come from around the world. Wausau is just one of their stops as they compete at many shows throughout the summer.

"We don't all do the same shows every weekend," said Paul Myers, Texas Thunder Bbq. "There's multiple shows every weekend, but these are some of the best here."

The vendors were selected by Wausau Area Events to be part of Ribfest.

Judging by the long lines, there must be something to these secret sauces.

"Love. We put love into everything," said Myers. "The rub. The sauce. The way we smoke it and the way we finish it off on the grill."

Organizers say around 20,000 people will take part in the mouth-watering event. But this event looked much different 12 years ago.

"This started out as a small balloon event with about 9 balloons," said Steve Woller.

Woller decided Wausau needed a balloon rally. A few years later, he teamed up with Wausau Area Events. The ribs soon became part of it, and the event grew into what it is today.

"I thought it was a great idea," said Woller. "The more things the merrier."

It's a popular summertime tradition. Bringing in balloons, and some of the country's best ribs, and plenty of people to eat them.
