CHANGING COURSE: Improvements made at Crane Meadows

Crane Meadows isn't exactly on the top of the list of prestigious golf venues in Wisconsin. In fact, the nine-hole Weston golf course is usually at the bottom of such a list.

Crane Meadows has been called a "joke of a golf course" due to the lack of regular maintenance and care shown over the past few years.

But that has since changed with this golf season starting with new management and course staff.

"Since March we've brought in a new superintendent, Mark Brost," course manager Alex Yde said. "He's been doing a lot of renovations to the course."

These renovations include the removal of unfair hazards, the major improvement of bunkers and greens, as well as extra attention being paid to areas that have had little to no maintenance work done in years.

"At least 100% better," Yde said. "The greens are more full and the grass is being cut more often, watered more often. The sand traps before looked like someone just took a shovel and dug out some holes and put some sand in them and they look like actual sand traps now."

All of which has made this course much more attractive and enjoyable to play.

"To get the course from what it looked like last year to this year is incredible. I've heard a lot of compliments," Yde said.

"I've heard best greens around, you know stuff like that. It's taken a lot of improvements and everyone's been taking notice. Overall it's just a really nice course now and I think people should come check it out."
