Alert citizen helps SP police nab car thieves

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) – Stevens Point police say a resident who yelled at two teenagers suspected of stealing items from a vehicle also helped capture them.

The resident called police about midnight Tuesday and officers found the suspects, who admitted to going “car shopping” in the neighborhood of 600 block of Union Street and removing items from several unlocked vehicles, Sgt. Tony Babl said.

Officers recovered several GPS units, sunglasses and an iPod following the arrests of the two 18-year-old suspects, Babl said in a statement.

“Police are urging citizens to keep their vehicles secure and valuables out of sight,” Babl said.
