UPDATE: Sheriff: Highway 45 crash victims stable

The Langlade County Sheriff's Department says two people hurt in a head-on crash on state Highway 45 were hospitalized Monday in stable condition.

The crash Sunday afternoon about 18 miles north of Antigo occurred when a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jason Dailey, 35, of Rhinelander, crossed the centerline and struck a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Keegan Herwald, 19, of Green Bay, Sheriff Bill Greening said.

A medical helicopter flew both drivers to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, he said.

The crash remains under investigation, the sheriff said.

A head-on crash in Langlade County blocked traffic on US 45 for several hours Sunday. Authorities say two people were airlifted to area hospitals.

An Elcho Emergency Services official says the two drivers were trapped in their cars after the crash near Summit Lake Road. First responders from Elcho and Antigo worked to free them from their cars.

Their conditions are not being released.

The road was re-opened around 7:30 p.m.

Langlade County Sheriff's officials expect to release more information on the crash Monday.
