Trial delayed for Wausau woman accused of dog abuse

The trial for a Wausau woman accused of poisoning and beating her boyfriend's dog has been delayed.

Sean D. Janas, 21, was to go on trial July 29, 2013.

The judge has now delayed that trial date until January 21, 2014 because the attorneys involved in the case had scheduling conflicts.

Judge Greg Grau told the court all motions in the case are to be filed with the court by December 13, 2013.

He will hear those motions December 23, 2013.

Prosecutors accuse Sean D. Janas, 21, of poisoning and stabbing Mary, a 4-year-old dog in June of 2012.

If convicted she faces more than five years in prison and $30,000 in fines.

Last October, protestors gathered outside the Marathon County Courthouse carrying signs demanding justice for Mary.

John Wallace is the defense attorney representing Sean Janas. He tells Newsline 9 he will argue for a change of venue, due to pre-trial publicity.

Janas remains in jail awaiting her next court hearing.
