Stevens Point police officer could be disciplined

A Stevens Point police officer will face a disciplinary hearing, but city officials won't say why or what the officer is accused of doing.

However, they did confirm Tuesday that a disciplinary hearing will take place next month.

Members of the Police and Fire Commission discussed the issue Tuesday during a closed session. That portion of the meeting lasted for more than an hour.

The city's attorney wouldn't give many details about the situation once the meeting returned to open session.

"It is an ongoing procedure. I can tell you that it is not related to a complaint against an officer by a citizen. It's not related to anything like that," said City Attorney Andrew Beveridge.

City leaders said the officer has not been charged with a crime.

Meanwhile, officials told us they plan to release more information closer to the hearing, which is scheduled for August 20.
