Leaders discuss proposed bridge project

TOWN OF MAINE (WAOW) -

Several bridges in Marathon County will be getting a facelift.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation held an information meeting Tuesday night to talk about proposed bridge improvements in the Town of Maine.

Officials say the proposed project will improve eight bridges along US 51 between Decator Drive and Rainbow Drive.

They say it will help extend the life of the bridges by about 25 years.

"Well, we had people who evaluated the conditions of the bridges every other year and at this time, it looks like the decks really need some work so we'll come in and take care of them and we'll get that additional life out of the structures," said Project Manager Michael Grage.

The project is expected to begin in 2015.
