Cold weather has summer lovers changing weekend plans
MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -
Being late July the temperatures would normally be in the 80's.
But on Friday it was so chilly, a few public swimming pools never had the chance to open.
Forecasters say Saturday could be even colder.
"We're just going to pull out the winter clothes a little earlier," said one Marshfield woman who told Newsline nine she has plans for a weekend filled with softball games with the family.
The cold weather, however, is putting a damper on those plans.
Marshfield's Wild Wood Park is typically full of children playing on a normal summer day.
On Friday there wasn't one person to be seen.
Across the street from that park is Hefko Pool. The scene was similar with no swimmers.
Pool officials say because of the cold weather they had no choice but to close it for the day.
"We're closing because it's only 17 degrees Celsius, which we would need it to be at least 19 degrees Celsius to open," said J.B. Hernandez, pool employee.
There is one place where the cooler weather works just fine--the Marshfield Country Club.
"Usually when it's cooler people have a tendency to get out more, if it gets hot and humid particularly our members who are up there in age, they don't play as much," said Tom Brockman, assistant golf pro.
Saturday could prove to be an even cooler day than Friday.
