Wausau man accused of attacking woman appears in court

A Wausau man accused of attacking a woman will have to wait a little longer to find out if he stands trial on the charges.

33-year old Robert Lou Woods appeared in Marathon County Court for a scheduled preliminary hearing for the judge to determine if there is enough evidence in the case for it to go before a jury.

Woods told Judge Michael Moran that he didn't feel a court-appointed public defender would provide sufficient defense for him.

Moran stated that because Woods qualifies for an attorney from the Public Defender's office that is what he will use.

Woods will now have to meet with that attorney and he agreed to waive the time limits set for a preliminary hearing.

He is scheduled to return to court in August.

According to the criminal complaint, Woods attacked the  woman at Paff Woods Nature Preserve Park on Wausau's east side on July 24th.
