Skyward celebrates huge expansion

A Stevens Point company is celebrating some big expansion plans.

Skyward officials say they are able to stay in Wisconsin thanks to a bill supported by state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Community members, Skyward leaders, Democrats, and Republicans packed SentryWorld all to say "thank you".

Earlier this year, the education software company was passed over for a statewide contract which would not allow Skyward to sell its software in Wisconsin.

Company leaders filed an appeal and state lawmakers got involved.

They introduced a new bill to help the Stevens Point based company.

Eventually Governor Scott Walker signed the budget, which allows more than one company to sell in Wisconsin.

The governor, state representatives, and Skyward leaders say they're happy to celebrate this day.

Skyward announced it will be expanding the business now that the company has decided to stay in the state.

Skyward leaders say they anticipate more than 1,000 jobs will be added during the next 10 years.

Skyward's founder also announced an expansion project that would house those employees.

Skyward hopes to break ground on that project next spring.
