Extra Innings: New faces for Woodchucks late in season

If you glance at the Woodchucks roster now, it looks nothing like the roster that the team started with in May.

In the last three weeks, 11 new players have joined the club while ten have left or are about to leave.

Blake Bottoms arrived in Wausau six days ago from Danville, Kentucky. The pitcher had actually been working at an internship and had 30 hours left to complete when he got the call to come to Wausau.

Bottoms has never been to Wisconsin but plans to make the most of his short time here.

"It's nice. you get phone calls every once in a while to come play but not many times in the Northwoods you get a call like that so it was very humbling," Bottoms said.

"It's exciting to be up here. I know I'm not going to be at full potential within two weeks so just with the opportunities I get. make the most of them Just kind of work on some stuff to be ready for the fall."

The Woodchucks call John Menken "the new guy" even though the catcher has been with the team for three weeks.

Menken was busy visiting colleges before arriving in Wausau and after committing to attend Winthrop university, the Illinois-native had to adjust to the daily grind of summer college baseball.

"In the three weeks I've been here, you build relationships with guys that you know last a life time," Menkin said. "The biggest thing is chemistry and when new guys come in like that like myself, it is hard but you got to take it upon yourself to be a part of the team."
