BURNETT COUNTY (WQOW) - A northern Wisconsin day care provider has been sentenced for bilking the government out of tens of thousands of dollars.
Kelly Martin has already paid $10,000 restitution. As part of her sentence in Burnett County, she was ordered to pay another $14,000. She will be on probation for up to three years.
Martin owned day care centers in Siren and Danbury. She received reimbursements from the state for caring for children from low-income families, but state investigators say she paid off area mothers to allow her to claim their children even though they didn't attend the day care.
