Mosinee man convicted in bicyclist's death

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The Mosinee man accused of running over and killing a bicyclist pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony charge in a plea agreement.

Tracy Kruzicki, 44, was convicted of operating a motor vehicle while his driver's license was suspended and causing death, according to Marathon County online court records.

Prosecutors said Kruzicki hit and killed 44-year-old Tammy Gass while she was riding on County Road KK near Mosinee in 2012.

Gaas' husband also died riding his bike on the same stretch of road in 2008.

Circuit Judge LaMont Jacobson set Kruzicki's sentencing for Oct. 7.

The maximum punishment for the conviction is up to six years in prison.

Attorneys have said that the plea deal calls for prosecutors to cap the jail time they will recommend.

Kruzicki's attorney, Richard Lawson, has said Kruzicki's driver's license was suspended because he could not afford auto insurance. Lawson said the crash happened because Kruzicki didn't see the bicyclist.
