Mikey, a lost German Shepard, is elusive

KROENWETTER (WAOW) - A German Shepard named Mikey who got frightened in a car crash is proving hard to catch.

The dog was one of three in a car that ran off I-39 on Wednesday night near Kronenwetter, Rothschild Assistant Fire Chief Mary LaPorte said Friday. The crash hospitalized the Milwaukee driver for a day.

Two of the dogs were captured that night, LaPorte said. But Mikey ran away.

We couldn't catch it because it was so shy,” the firefighter said. “I pulled up real close to it that night at Wausau Homes and it bolted from me.”

There is some urgency to finding the dog, LaPorte said. It has already crossed busy I-39 once, she said.

Anyone who spots the dog is asked to call LaPorte at 715-573-8172, the Marathon County Humane Society at 715-845-2810 or the Marathon County Sheriff's Department at 715-847-0200.
