I moved to Wausau more than a year ago from Anchorage Alaska, where I lived for 8 years. Last week I was able to vacation there, and I bring to you a piece of that trip, my paradise.
My Alaskan adventure didn't come without the stress of travel. It started with a 4 hour drive to Chicago, and 6 hour flight to Anchorage. Once I landed, my wilderness oasis was still a ways away. Another long drive to Willow, only to then take a 55 mile boat ride which is the only way to get to Lake Creek.
Northwoods Lodge offers fishing guides, catered meals, a hot tub and game room just to start. My friend, Tyson Johnson, whose parents own Northwoods Lodge sets us up with bead on a fly rod aiming for rainbow trout. He says it can't get better than this, "It's usually really good, it's one of the top rainbow trout fishing places in the state."
In just a few casts, Lake Creek holds up to it's reputation. Under the midnight sun fishing with my best friends, is my idea of a perfect vacation. As the sun set at 1 in the morning, The long travel to wilderness luxury was well worth it.
