The Wausau East Lumberjacks return only a handful of starters from a team that reached the playoffs the last two seasons. Even with a few new faces, the team says they have very intention of getting back to the post season again. Among the returning players are center Louis Nass and left tackle Austin Cummings. Also returning is standout kicker Bryce Widmark, who also is one of six players aiming to be the starting QB.
First-year coach Scott Mallien, spent the previous four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Green Bay Notre Dame, replacing Steve Jung who is now the head coach at Neenah.
And with all the changes, the team admits there's some growing pains.
Mallien says, "How you want the kids to act and behave. How you want the coaches to get used to you. Its a lot of getting used to everybody right off the bat and kind of a get to know you type of period within the first few weeks."
