WAUSAU (WAOW) -
One person is in custody after a high-speed chase Thursday through Wausau, ending in the Town of Weston.
According to Wausau Police Lt. Jim Wadinski, about a dozen officers from several different agencies chased a vehicle with three people in it Thursday evening. It happened just before 7:30 p.m.
Wadinski said officers tried to make a drug-related traffic stop at 3rd Avenue and Thomas Street in Wausau, but the vehicle didn't pull over. Officers chased the vehicle for several miles to Kersten Road in the Town of Weston where it ended up in a ditch.
Lt. Wadinski said three people were inside the vehicle. The driver, an adult male, ran away but was later arrested, Wadinski said. No one was hurt.
The driver of the vehicle faces preliminary charges of fleeing an officer, first degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing an officer, as well as traffic violations, Wadinski said. He also said the driver has a warrant in another county for a probation violation.
The driver was cited for having an expired registration, failing to stop at a stop sign, and running a red light, according to the Wausau Police crime log.
Officers from Wausau, Rothschild, Everest Metro, and Wisconsin State Patrol were involved in the chase.
Earlier Thursday, Wausau police were involved in a chase that ended with a suspect, 24-year-old Peter Yang, running away. Lt. Wadinski said this most recent incident is not involved with the earlier chase.
