Construction of Wausau's new soccer complex moves along

Construction of Wausau's new soccer complex near Kent Street is moving along.

The nearly 20 years, soccer groups have worked to see the complex become reality.

It is being built on top of the former Holtz Krause landfill on Kent Street in Wausau.

The chairperson for the Holtz Krause steering committee says he is pleased  how things are going.

"At the beginning of the summer there were delays due to rain. Now the construction crews are really making progress, " said Dave Eisenreich.

The complex will include 15 fields, a parking area, playground and concession stand.

Marathon County will own the complex once it is built.

The county agreed to buy it after the Department of Natural Resources granted it a liability exemption for any pollution linked to the landfill.
