SPASH boys soccer opens season with win

Seniors Travis Szeligowski and Sean McGibbon scored as SPASH defeated Waupaca, 2-0, in the season opener in Stevens Point.

The Panthers, whose 2012 season ended in the Division 1 regional final, needed just 20 minutes to score the first goal of the 2013 campaign. Szeligowski scored unassisted with a floater of a kick that landed in the corner of the net.

McGibbon, chosen as a co-captain this season, sent a kick across from the left side to seal the two-goal shutout.

SPASH hosts Wisconsin Rapids in their next game on Aug. 27.

In other boys' soccer action, D.C. Everest opened the season with a 1-0 win over Green Bay East, while Wausau East followed up their run to the sectional semifinals last season with a 5-1 win over Lakeland.
