Countdown to Kickoff: Stratford

STRATFORD (WAOW) -

Stratford football made it all the way to the Level 3 playoffs last season, before falling to eventual Division 5 champion, Amherst last November.

The Tigers have turned over a new leaf with Jason Tubbs who takes over for the legendary Cal Tackes after serving as defensive coordinator for the last 10 years.

Tubbs will lead a group of 19 seniors looking to earn the school's first state title since 2008. He says he's learned a lot from Coach Tackes but is ready to do some different things with his team.

"Some of the new things that I'm doing. We've got some different styles. We're trying to keep it simpler on offense and play a little more defensive minded type of team," Tubbs said.

"We have a lot of great athletes on our team right now that are willing to work hard enough during the middle of the season, during the grind of it to get to the next level. So I know they're hungry for it after last year's loss to Amherst."

The Jason Tubbs' era will begin with the Tigers hosting Pittsville on Friday night.
