Sheriff calls elderly woman's death "suspicious"

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Marathon County Sheriff Scott Parks says an investigation has been launched into what he called the “suspicious death” of an 87-year-old Mosinee woman in early August.

Parks said police received a 911 call on July 31 about 8:30 p.m. of an “unresponsive” woman at a Mosinee home.

Helen Zawislan was taken by ambulance to Ministry St. Clare's Hospital in Weston where she died Aug. 2, the sheriff said in a statement Thursday.

An autopsy was performed Aug. 3, he said. “Further examination of medical records and initial results of the autopsy prompted an investigation.”

No other details were released.

“We are looking at all different angles,” Parks said in an interview. “There is nothing to substantiate it is a homicide.”
