UPDATE: 16-year-old race car driver hospitalized

A 16-year-old stock car racer injured in a crash at State Park Speedway near Wausau was hospitalized Friday, her father said.

Elizabeth Hamilton-Zahn suffered a concussion and her right arm was hurt when her car slammed into another car that spun out in front of her on Thursday night, Jeff Zahn said.

She had no where to go out of the turn and just broadsided him,” Zahn said. “She has got a neck brace on. She hurts from head to toe... She blacked out. She doesn't remember most of the race.”

The crash happened in a race of mini-stocks featuring about eight cars,  track owner Ron Wimmer said.

Hamilton-Zahn has raced at the track since she was 14 years old, her father said.

The girl underwent some medical tests and was released from the hospital on Friday afternoon, her father said.

A crash Thursday night at the State Park Speedway in Rib Mountain has left one person injured, according to the Rib Mountain Fire Department.

Rib Mountain Fire Department Lt. Bert Nitzke says a crash involving two cars happened during a race around 9:30 p.m.

Nitzke says one woman was injured in the crash and taken to a Wausau hospital. Her condition was unknown Thursday night. The other driver involved in the crash was not hurt, Nitzke says.
