The crackdown on drunken driving continues in Portage County

Portage County Sheriff's officials are continuing to crackdown on drunken drivers.

Authorities there say their alcohol enforcement program puts more officers on the roads. They dedicate a few officers to strictly watch for drunken driving.

The program is funded by a $25,000 state grant.

Authorities say the program has been successful so far. They hope this new initiative will stop people from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

"The bottom line is if you're going to drink get somebody else to drive, I've always said this, if you've had one beer that's one too many to drink and drive," said Sgt. James Pozniak, Portage County Sheriff's Office.

Since the start of this year Portage County authorities have arrested more than 100 people for OWI's. They say just last weekend 9 arrests were made because of drunken driving.
