Weather-related fire levels northern Wis. home


EAGLE RIVER (WAOW) – Utility crews working to restore downed power lines from a storm discovered a fire that destroyed a vacation home near Conover on Monday, the Vilas County Sheriff's Department said.

The cause of the fire is believed to be weather-related however exact cause is undetermined,” Lt. Mark Collins said in a statement.

Workers for Wisconsin Electric discovered the fire about 11 a.m. at 5846 North Hunter Lake Road about five miles southwest of Conover, Collins said. The home was unoccupied.

The structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said.

Storms packing heavy rain and lightning moved through northern Wisconsin Monday morning, knocking out power to thousands, officials said.
