Packers make final cuts, roster down to 53 players

The Green Bay Packers released 22 players on Saturday in order to meet the NFL's 53 man roster limit.

Most of the cuts made were expected but a few came as a shock to Packers nation.

The big names released include Vince Young, Alex Green, D. J. Williams, and Dezman Moses.

Perhaps the most surprising cut made was that of quarterback Vince Young. Young was brought to Green Bay more than a week into training camp and showed signs of promise to be Aaron Rodgers' backup. But Thursday night against the Chiefs his performance was shaky, which most likely led to him not making the team. This move leaves just two quarterbacks on Green Bay's roster; Aaron Rodgers and B. J. Coleman.

The Packers also chose to cut their leading rusher from last season in Alex Green. The 25-year-old was one of four running backs on the roster before Saturday. Green has shown flashes of production that will likely lead to another team scooping him up. Green's release leaves James Starks as the only Packers running back with regular season experience. Rookie draft picks Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin will also be in the backfield for Green Bay.

Tight end, D. J. Williams saw action in 14 games last season and most thought that he was worthy of making the team.

Outside linebacker, Dezman Moses started six games for the Pack in 2012.
