Kids in Marathon County are encouraged to read a thousand books before kindergarten.
That's the goal of a new program at the library. Leaders there say parents can come in, sign up, and receive a sheet to record the number of books they read with their children. Those kids can then track their progress all the way to one thousand.
"When the older kids start school, that's all over the news, but you've also got kids at home that can be learning," said library assistant Amy Ryan. "This is one way that they can do it."
Library leaders say the program will be going on for a while. Parents can still sign up.
