Brown County on pace for few OWI fatalities

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -

Brown County is on pace for its fewest alcohol-related traffic deaths in the past decade.
A Press-Gazette Media report says there have been at least six drunken-driving fatalities per year for the past 10 years. This year there's been one.
Sheriff's Capt. Randy Schultz says there's no mystery about what causes alcohol-related crashes. He says the key is to find a way to lower the number of people who drink and drive.
The county's OWI Task Force conducts periodic patrols that target intoxicated drivers. Schultz says there will be at least two patrols this autumn on days that large crowds are in town for football games.
Across the state, 348 people have died in traffic crashes through Aug. 31. That's 49 fewer than at the same point last year.
