UPDATE: Suspect of officer shooting appears in court

The suspect accused in a Taylor County standoff Sunday was in court Monday for a bond hearing.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department says 27-year-old Alexander Schneider was arrested, about three hours after investigators say he shot a Taylor County deputy on Sunday.

Schneider appeared at the Taylor County court, where a judge set his cash bond at $1 million.

Authorities recommended attempted first degree intentional homicide charges.

Taylor County Judge Ann Knox-Bauer said Schneider violated a civil injunction by court to have guns.

Sheriff's officials say Deputy Chad Kowalcyzk is recovering at a hospital.

Investigators say Kowalcyzk, a five-year veteran, made contact with Schneider in Westboro after a reported violation of a court-ordered injunction.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy was shot during that contact.

Authorities say Kowalcyzk received help from concerned citizens after the shooting.

No other details about what happened have been released at this time.

Sheriff's officials say Schneider is a Taylor County resident and remains in the Lincoln County Jail.

Authorities say there is no longer a safety threat related to this case.
