Plover man to stand trial in woman's killing

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A Plover man who told investigators that he strangled a 36-year-old woman, sexually assaulted her after she was dead, put her body in her car, drove it to a rural area and set the vehicle on fire was ordered to stand trial Wednesday.

Prosecutors presented sufficient evidence against Jose Luis Flores Aca, 32, to warrant a trial on three felonies, Portage County Circuit Judge Thomas Flugar ruled during a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors called four witnesses during the morning-long hearing, according to online court records.

Flores Aca, 32, of Plover was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree sexual assault and hiding a corpse in the Aug. 7 death of Jamie Koch at her apartment in Plover.

"Mr. Flores Aca told detectives that he was so angry and had lost control and likened it to becoming a 'monster,'" the criminal complaint said.

Flores Aca told investigators he was returning from an evening at the bar and had just been unable to talk to a former girlfriend when Koch asked "Hi, how are you?" as he stood in the hallway of the building where he and Koch had separate apartments, the complaint said.

Flores Aca said Koch invited him inside her apartment and he eventually "threw her a punch" and she fell down, the complaint said.

Flores Aca said he used his hands and Koch's bra to strangle her, the complaint said.

Koch's body was found in a partially burned car near a farm field in rural Waupaca County, police said.

Aca is to return to court Oct. 7 to enter pleas to the charges. His attorney declined comment after Wednesday's hearing.

Koch was last seen alive about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 7, leaving Joe's Bar, the complaint said.
