Parts of Radtke Park in Schofield closed

The City of Schofield has installed a fence warning visitors to stay off the stairs leading to the beach and the point.

Mayor Ken Fabel says the fence went up to keep people safe.

"We have erosion issues there with the stairs at the pointe and in the infrastructure. It's become a safety issue," said Fabel.

Schofield leases the park from the City of Wausau.

The two sides are now negotiating how to pay for the repairs and how to write up a new lease.

"We're hopeful we can apply for a county grant so we can get some of the erosion problems under control, " said Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple.

A new path has been cleared to the beach.

Both community leaders say the fence will likely remain up until the needed repairs take place.
