RHINELANDER (WAOW) -

Power in the Rhinelander area has been restored after an outage left thousands of customers in the dark, according to the Wisconsin Public Service website.

Almost 3,000 customers lost power Wednesday afternoon because of a problem at a substation, according to a WPS spokeswoman.

This outage affected more than 20 percent of the customers in Rhinelander, according to WPS.

Customers in Tomahawk and Gleason also lost power, but it has been restored.
