Second mental exam granted to jail beating suspect

The man accused of attacking two Marathon County jail officers will have a second mental exam. This will help determine if he'll stand trial.

Fredrick Morris, 21, is charged with aggravated battery after authorities say he injured two corrections officers, one of them critically.

He pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Morris has already had one competency exam. But in court on Thursday, his attorney asked for a second opinion.

The court granted that request.

No future court dates have not been set.
